Understand what the visa allows before applying.

- Stay in Germany for up to 12 months
- Seek qualified employment — or a path into self-employment (§20a & 20b Residence Act)
- Work part-time (average max. 20 hours/week)
- Do trial work (up to 2 weeks per employer) in your field
- Switch to a full work permit / Blue Card in Germany without returning to India
- Apply together with your spouse / partner

- Work full-time immediately (over 20 hrs/week average violates the visa)

- Run full self-employment during the search phase (it may only be your goal once established)

The 2 Eligibility Routes
You only need ONE route. Choose based on your degree's recognition.
Route 1
Option 1 · Skilled Worker (Recognised Degree)
No points calculation needed. If your qualification is fully recognised in Germany (Anabin "entspricht"/"gleichwertig" + H+ institution, or a ZAB Statement of Comparability) — or you obtained it in Germany — you apply directly.
✓ No German or IELTS certificate required — only your Anabin printout or ZAB Statement.
Common for: IITs, NITs, top central universities.
Route 2
Option 2 · Points-Based (Degree Valid in India)
If your degree is valid in India but not yet formally recognised in Germany, use the points system. You need a minimum of 6 points, plus a completed 2-year vocational or academic qualification.
Base rule: at least German A1 OR English B2 (native English speakers usually exempt).
Common for: private colleges, state universities, B.Com, MBA, arts (90%+ of applicants).
Anabin (H+) or a ZAB Statement of Comparability?
Understand exactly when you need degree recognition — and why many applicants get the ZAB certificate anyway.
Anabin is enough
When you do NOT need a ZAB Statement
- Your university is listed as H+ in Anabin
- Your exact degree is listed in Anabin
- Your degree is marked "entspricht" or "gleichwertig" (equivalent)
In this case the Anabin printout is generally accepted as proof of recognition.
ZAB required
When you DO need the ZAB Statement of Comparability
- Your degree is valid in India but not yet recognised in Germany (Route 2)
- Your university/degree is not H+ or not listed in Anabin
- Mandatory as your proof of degree validity for the points route

Why get the ZAB Statement even if you're H+?
It's optional when your degree is in Anabin — but it carries real, lasting advantages.

Issued by ZAB — the official authority — confirming your degree is comparable to a German qualification. Accepted by authorities, embassies & employers.

Adds an extra layer of official verification, so the visa officer understands your qualification without checking Anabin.

Many German employers — especially the public sector — prefer or request it. It clearly maps your degree to the German system.

The same document works for the Opportunity Card, Skilled Worker Visa, EU Blue Card, employer verification & some university admissions.

Proof of funds for at least one year: €1,091/month = €13,092 total — plus funds for your return flight. Required for both Option 1 and Option 2.
100% Embassy Acceptance
Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)
Open with providers like Expatrio or Fintiba. Deposit €13,092 (+ return-flight funds). Guaranteed confirmation letter; money released monthly in Germany.
Least Reliable
Bank Statements
Statements of the last 3 months stating your name and address, with a consistent balance. Subject to strict Embassy scrutiny.
If Applicable
Sponsorship (Verpflichtungserklärung)
Formal obligation letter under §66–68 Residence Act by a Germany-resident sponsor, covering the entire stay. Accepted only with the official remark "nachgewiesen".
Alternative
Part-Time Work Contract
A signed contract for a part-time job in Germany (up to 20 hrs/week) can count towards your proof of financial means.

Valid Passport & 2 Copies Required
Issued within last 10 years, 2 blank pages. A4 copy of the data page (2 copies).
Application Form & §54 Declaration Required
VIDEX form, printed and hand-signed (wet ink), 2 signed copies incl. the Section 54 Residence Act declaration.
Additional Contact & Legal Representation Form New
Contact / representation declaration form — 2 copies.
2 Biometric Photos Required
35×45 mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months.
Financial Proof, Accommodation & Health Insurance Required
Blocked-account letter (€13,092 + return flight), proof of an actual German address (hotel/rental), and health insurance for the full stay.
CV, Birth Certificate & Aadhaar Required
Tabular CV. Original birth certificate + Aadhaar card, with a notarised English translation if not in English/German.
2. The Motivational Letter Requirements
Critical: Generic letters are the #1 reason for rejection. You MUST cover these 4 points specifically.

Your current German level (and since when) or why English is enough for your field.
3. Applications Made
Proof of jobs applied to, or interview invites received — attach the evidence.

Specific reasons you chose Germany over another EU country — tied to your career.

- Original degree + all marksheets (with translations)
- Anabin printout showing your university as H+ AND your degree listed
If Route 2 (Points Based)
- Original degree + all marksheets (with translations)
- ZAB "Statement of Comparability" (DAB): mandatory proof of degree validity — apply day 1 at zab.kmk.org/en/dab.
- Base language proof: minimum German A1 (Goethe/ÖSD) OR English B2 (ALTE Q-mark certificate).
4. Bonus Point Evidence (Optional)
Attach these only if you claimed the points for them in the calculator:
- German (A2–C1) or English C1 official certificates.
- Experience letters + salary slips (must match your degree field).
- Proof of prior German legal stay (old residence permits, Anmeldung).
- Spouse's Chancenkarte application receipt.
5. Special Cases & Situational Documents
Aged 45 or Older — Retirement Provision New
If you are 45+ (or turn 45 during your stay), a signed declaration regarding your provisions for retirement is mandatory.
Distance-Learning / Remote Degree New
If your degree was completed remotely, provide confirmation from the relevant Indian authority that the distance-learning programme was approved at the time.
Already Have a Job Offer? If Applicable
Submit the work contract, "Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis" and the declaration under §18 AufenthG.
Vocational Training (instead of a degree) If Applicable
Proof of a completed vocational training of at least 2 years recognised in the country obtained, plus recognition documents (anerkennung-in-deutschland.de).

The card lets you work — within clear limits — while you search for qualifying employment.
20 Hours / Week
You may work an average of a maximum of 20 hours per week in any part-time job while you look for qualified work.
2-Week Trial Work
You can do a "try-out" of up to 2 weeks with an employer, in line with your qualification or aimed at vocational training.
Switch to Work Permit
Once you find adequate employment, your visa is converted to a residence permit for employment — no need to return to India.

Transfer funds (€13,092 + return-flight funds) to Expatrio/Fintiba to secure your financial-proof certificate.

Fill VIDEX & Book VFS
Complete the official online VIDEX form, print and sign it, and secure a VFS appointment.

VFS Appointment
Submit 2 A4 sets + originals. Pay the €75 fee. Then wait roughly 8–14 weeks for Embassy processing.
