Enter your raw scores out of 40 and your Writing and Speaking bands. The overall band uses the official rounding rule — a quarter rounds up.
Listening uses one table for both modules. Reading splits, because General Training texts are easier.

The official conversion is set per test version and can vary by a mark or two. Treat every score here as an estimate.
Official documents. We link you to the real thing rather than rehosting it — band descriptors, sample tasks and answer sheets, straight from ielts.org.
Official sample tests →Twenty-one official question types. These are the six that cost candidates the most marks.
False means the passage says the opposite. Not Given means the passage is silent. The distinction is about the text, never about the world.
Read the statement first, find the matching passage location, then decide. Never decide from memory of the passage.
The trap: using your own knowledge. If you know a statement is factually wrong but the passage never addresses it, the answer is Not Given.Read the paragraph fully, then pick the heading — not the reverse. A heading must cover the whole paragraph, not one striking sentence in it.
Do the paragraphs you are sure about first and cross those headings off. The remaining choices get easier with every elimination.
The trap: headings built from a word that appears in two paragraphs. Word-matching fails here by design. The word limit is absolute. "NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS" means a three-word answer scores zero even when it is correct.
Predict the grammatical form before you look — noun, verb, number — then find it. Copy the spelling exactly from the passage.
The trap: hyphenated words and numbers. "Twenty-five" is one word; "25 per cent" is three.Orient yourself before the audio starts. Find the entrance, the compass, the "you are here" marker, and read the labels already filled in.
Track direction language actively: opposite, adjacent to, at the far end, just past, on your left as you come in.
The trap: the speaker corrects themselves. "It's next to the library — sorry, that's the old plan, it's behind it now." The second statement is the answer.Select and report the main features. An examiner wants an overview paragraph that states the big movement, then two body paragraphs with grouped, compared data.
No opinion, no cause, no speculation. Describe only what the graphic shows.
The trap: listing every number. A data dump with no overview caps Task Achievement at Band 5.Task Response, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy — each worth exactly a quarter, and Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1.
Answer every part of the question. A "discuss both views and give your opinion" prompt with no clear opinion loses a full band on Task Response alone.
The trap: memorised phrases. "In this contemporary era of globalisation" signals a template to an examiner and drags Lexical Resource down, not up.Yes. Every practice test, the band calculator and the strategy library are free with no card and no trial clock. You only give us an email if you want your results saved across devices. We are an education consultancy — the practice platform exists so that students who need our help find us.
Listening and Reading are converted from your raw score using the standard published tables, so they are close. Writing and Speaking are scored against the official public band descriptors and calibrated against essays marked by a certified examiner. We publish our accuracy rather than claiming perfection — and every score is labelled an estimate, because only a real test centre issues a real band.
Academic for university admission, which covers almost every student we work with. General Training is for work visas and migration to the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Listening and Speaking are identical in both; Reading and Writing differ. Switch modules in the bar at the top of this page.
No, and deliberately so. Every passage, audio script and question here is written by our team to the official test specification. Sites offering scanned Cambridge papers are republishing copyrighted material. Our content is built to the same format, length and difficulty — and it is ours to give you.
You can, and the interface adapts. But we recommend a laptop for full mocks, because the real computer-based test is a desktop environment and part of what you are practising is managing that screen under time pressure. Question drills and sections work well on a phone.
It depends on the country, the university and often the individual programme — and many set a minimum per band, not just an overall. That per-band floor is what catches most applicants out. Set your target at the top of this page for a rough guide, then confirm the exact requirement for your shortlist on a free counselling call.
