The Key Facts

Understand what the visa allows before applying.

The 2 Eligibility Routes

You only need ONE route. Choose based on your degree's recognition.

Route 1

Direct (Degree Recognised in Germany)

No points calculation needed. If your university and degree are fully recognised in Germany (via Anabin database H+ status), you can apply directly.

Common for: IITs, NITs, Top Central Universities.

Route 2

Points-Based (Degree Valid in India)

If your degree is valid in India but not formally recognised in Germany yet, you must use the points system. You need a minimum of 6 points to qualify.

Common for: Private Colleges, State Universities, B.Com, MBA, Arts (90%+ of applicants).

Open with providers like Expatrio or Fintiba. Deposit €13,092. Get guaranteed confirmation letter. Money released monthly in Germany.

If Applicable

Sponsorship (Verpflichtungserklärung)

Formal obligation letter by a Germany-resident sponsor, officially stamped by the German Ausländerbehörde.

Comprehensive Document Checklist

Prepare 2 identical A4 copies. Bring all originals to your VFS appointment.

1. Standard Mandatory Documents (Everyone)
Valid Passport & 2 Copies Required
Issued within last 10 years, 2 blank pages. A4 copy of data page.
VIDEX Form + Declarations Required
Filled online, printed, and hand-signed (wet ink) in 2 places. Includes Sec 54 declaration.
2 Biometric Photos Required
35×45 mm, white background, taken within last 6 months.
Financial Proof, Accommodation, Insurance Required
Blocked account letter, proof of actual German address (hotel/rental), and valid health insurance.
CV & Birth Certificate Required
Tabular CV. Original Birth Certificate (with notarised translation if not English/German).
2. The Motivational Letter Requirements
Critical: Generic letters are the #1 reason for rejection. You MUST cover these 4 points specifically.

Specific role/industry you are targeting in Germany.

2. Language Plan

Your current German level or why English is enough for your field.

3. Applications Made

Proof of jobs applied to, or interview invites received.

4. Why Germany?

Specific reasons tied to your career, not just "better future".

3. Qualification & Route-Specific Docs

If Route 1 (Anabin H+)

  • Original Degree + All Marksheets (with translations)
  • Anabin Printout: showing University H+ AND Degree listed

If Route 2 (Points Based)

  • Original Degree + All Marksheets (with translations)
  • ZAB DAB Confirmation Letter: Mandatory proof of degree validity. Apply day 1.
  • Base Language Proof: Minimum German A1 OR English B2 certificate.
4. Bonus Point Evidence (Optional)

Attach these only if you claimed points for them in the calculator:

  • German (A2-C1) or English C1 official certificates.
  • Experience Letters + Salary Slips (Must match degree field).
  • Proof of prior German legal stay (Old residence permits, Anmeldung).
  • Spouse's application receipt.

Open Blocked Account

Transfer funds to Expatrio/Fintiba to secure your financial proof certificate.

Fill VIDEX & Book VFS

Complete the official online VIDEX form, print it, sign it, and secure a VFS appointment.

4

VFS Appointment

Submit 2 A4 sets + Originals. Pay €75 fee. Wait 8-14 weeks for Embassy processing.
