Self-Assessment & Document Preparation (1-3 months)
Calculate your points to ensure you meet the 6-point minimum.
Gather all required documents:
- Valid Passport: Must be issued within the last 10 years.
- Biometric Photos: Two recent photos.
- Proof of Funds: Blocked bank account or a Declaration of Commitment from a German resident.
- Proof of Qualification: University degree, vocational certificate, and ZAB/Anabin documentation.
- Language Certificates: Official certificates for German (A1 or A2+) and/or English (B2+).
- Resume/CV: German-style.
- Health Insurance: Proof of travel insurance for the initial entry period.
Book Your Visa Appointment (2-4 weeks)
Visit the website of the German Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Book a visa appointment for a "Long-Stay Visa" (specifically for the Chancenkarte, if available). Note that appointments can have a long waiting time
Attend the Visa Interview (1-2 hours)
Bring all original documents and two identical, complete sets of photocopies.
Be prepared to answer questions about your motivation for moving to Germany and your financial situation.
Visa Processing (6-8 weeks)
The embassy will process your application. You will be notified by email or phone when a decision is made.
If approved, your Chancenkarte visa will be stamped in your passport. This is usually valid for six months, allowing you to enter Germany.
Arrive in Germany (Within 6 months of visa issuance)
Enter Germany and begin your job search.
Within two weeks of arrival, you must register your address at the local Residents' Registration Office (Bürgeramt).
Book an appointment with the local Foreigners' Office (Ausländerbehörde) to apply for your one-year residence permit. This converts your entry visa into a full Chancenkarte.
